Cloran, William Michael "Bill" of Newton Centre, an attorney and educator died peacefully at home, on July 31st, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was ninety years old. Bill was born in Boston to Captain John and Madeline (McManus) Cloran. He was raised in Brighton and went to Our Lady of the Presentation Grammar School and Saint Columbkille's High School both in Brighton.

Dedication to service, duty and education was very important to Bill. He worked full time as a Massachusetts State Trooper and served in the Army National Guard as a Military Police  Officer while working as a team with his wife, Rosemary raising a family while pursuing a Business Administration degree from Boston College, followed by a J.D. degree from Suffolk University, Masters in Ed from Boston University and Masters from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government

Bill served as the First Assistant Clerk to the Supreme Judicial Court of Suffolk County, then was Appointed to the position of the First Judicial Court for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the Justices of the Supreme Court. Bill later became General Counsel to the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities where he supervised the Department and its 14 attorney's.

Bill also was an Educator. It was his passion. He always said that "effective teaching requires interaction with the students as well as a sense of humor". He was a Senior Lecturer at Northeastern University's Law Enforcement Program for 20 years, a lecturer at Suffolk University School of Law , where he taught Court Procedure and Appellate Procedure. He taught legal and police courses for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Criminal Justice Training Council, and at Boston University's , Center for Professional Investigation he taught Investigator/Legal Issues in Professional Investigations. Bill also founded William Cloran Academy, Inc, where he taught legal and law enforcement courses all while having his own private practice in Newton Centre.

Bill was also an author. He wrote the Criminal Law Reference Handbook, The Massachusetts Firearm User's Manual , Massachusetts Law Reference Handbook for Liquor Establishments, and Motor Vehicle Law Reference Handbook.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. He was the beloved husband of Rosemary Hanley Cloran, the Director of Bay State Skating School. Bill and Rosemary met at the Skating Club of Boston where Rosemary was a figure skater and Bill drove the Zamboni while he was a student at BC. It was love at first sight and they were devoted to each other for over 63 years. He was the loving father of Christine Cloran Bradshaw of Newton and William "Billy" Cloran Jr. of Boston. Bill's greatest joy was his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Emma, Madelyn and Olivia. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jack, Donald, and Paul Cloran.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., West Newton, Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026 from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.  His funeral will be from the funeral home Friday at 9:15 a.m.  followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St., Newton at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will be private.
