After a courageous battle with cancer, Robert "Bob" Carreiro, age 66, of Everett, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on October 1, 2017. Born in Everett, MA, on September 12, 1951, he was the son of the late Manuel Carreiro and Mary (Ragucci) Carreiro.
A lifelong resident of Everett, Bob graduated from Everett High School in 1969 and Salem State College in 1973. After graduation, he realized his dream of becoming an educator when he became a special education teacher in the Everett public school system. He taught for 17 years and served as the president of the Everett Teachers Association during his tenure.
In the early 1990s, Bob began a successful career in the restaurant business, running the Il Panino restaurants in Cambridge and Malden and serving as the comptroller for DePasquale Ventures. He then turned his attention back to public service where he spent several years working for the Massachusetts Department of Housing before returning to the community of Everett he loved so much. Until his retirement in 2016, Bob served as the Director of the Everett Housing Authority. For the past 13 years, he was also a member of the Everett School Committee, holding the positions of both chairman and vice-chairman at different times through the years.
When he wasn't working, Bob enjoyed spending time with his friends and family; he looked forward to his family vacation in North Conway every summer. A devoted Crimson Tide football fan, Bob rarely missed a game, and he looked forward to Everett's homecoming events every year. He will be remembered for his humor and wit, his love of Oldies music (which he would sing loudly and proudly at social gatherings) and of course, his trademark cigars.
Bob was the loving brother of Elizabeth Wiley and her husband Robert Wiley of Tewksbury. He was cherished as "Uncle Bobby" by Robert Wiley II and his wife Shelby and Jennifer Malley, her husband Christopher and their children Alexandra and Jonathan, all of Wilmington. He is also survived by his loving fiancé Toni Algiere, his former wife and dear friend Laura (DePasquale) Carreiro and many loving cousins, aunts, uncle and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bob's visiting hours in the Cafasso & Sons Funeral Home, 65 Clark St. (Corner of Main St.) EVERETT, Thursday, Oct. 5 from 4-8 p.m. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 487 Broadway, Everett, at 10 a.m.
