WHALEN, John R. "Jack" of Everett, died unexpectedly of an aggressive cancer on January 3, 2017 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury. He was 84 years old. Jack was born in Chelsea and lived in Everett for most of his life. He attained an Associates Degree from Northeastern University. Jack was a police officer, retiring from the Metropolitan District Commission Police Department. Beloved husband of Mary C. (Quealy) for over 59 years. Dear and devoted father of Michael J. Whalen of Boston, Mary Margaret Erickson and her husband, Barry of Everett, Elizabeth A. Whalen of Wakefield and Clare E. Maggio and her husband, Anthony of Salem, NH. Brother of the late Walter and Thomas Whalen, Winifred Severance, Lorraine Krinopoulos and Rita Lynn. Loving grandfather of Laurelle Farrell, Kristin Erickson Scott, Katelyn Erickson, Christopher Erickson, Cameron Erickson, Courtney Erickson, Riesa Maggio and Michael Maggio. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jack's visiting hours in the Cafasso & Sons Funeral Home, 65 Clark St. (Corner of Main St.) EVERETT, Sunday, Jan. 8 from 2-6 p.m. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Grace Church, 59 Nichols St. Everett-Chelsea at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors at the Glenwood Cemetery, Everett. Jack served honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Late member of the Retired Association of Metropolitan Police and the Sagamore Club.
