BONAVITA, Gerardina (Ianuzzi) of Stoneham, entered into eternal rest at home, surrounded by her loving family Friday, September 4, 2026. She was 93 years old. Gerardina was born in Caposele, Avellino, Italy and came to the United States in 1971, settling in Somerville. She worked for Schraffts' Candy Company as a chocolate maker and Filene's Basement.
Gerardina was the devoted daughter of the late Vincenzo Ianuzzi and Concetta Ceres; the beloved wife of the late Filippo Bonavita; the dear and devoted mother of Joseph Nesta and his fiance', Nancy Camarata, Giulio Bonavita and his wife, Kerry, Carmelina Buonopane and her husband, Jim, Connie Pescione and her husband, Chris and Gina Cacciola and her husband, Anthony; the dear sister of Antonella, Caterina, Gelsomina. Antonio Ianuzzi and the late Filomena; and the loving Nonna of Gina, Christina, Joseph, Deanna, Gianna, Ellisia, Sabrina, Amelia, James, Sofia, Vince, Christopher, Joey, Matthew, Giavanna and Antonio and also 15 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gerardina's funeral Mass Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 770 Salem St., Malden followed by entombment at the Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, Malden. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gerardina's memory to Mystic Valley Aging Services, 300 Commercial Street, Ste.19, Malden, MA 02148 (mves.org) would be sincerely appreciated.
