He was born in the Allston section of Boston and was raised in Cambridge, where he and his wife Barbara M. (Flanagan) raised their five children. They later lived in Everett for many years.
Fran retired from Harvard University as a facilities custodian. He also served as the Athletic Director for St. Mary's High School in Cambridge and was a former member of the City of Everett Board of Health Commission. Fran was an active member of his community and enjoyed being involved in local politics. He would be out, pounding the pavement, to help his favorite candidates. Fran was a true gentleman's gentleman. Dear and devoted father of Francis "Tim" Boyle and his wife, Susan of Myrtle Beach, SC; Sheila Gaspar and her late husband, Ron of York Beach, ME; Patricia Gaudet and her husband, Daniel of Everett; Kevin Boyle and his wife, Joanne of Arlington; and Karen Fogarty and her husband, Vincent of Melrose. He was also a loving Pappy to 5 great grandchildren: Auggie and Tessa Boyle, Lillian Mirabello, and Louie and James Gaspar. Fran was the patriarch of a large extended family of many nieces and nephews. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family, telling stories, looking at photos, and reminiscing about the past. Fran was an avid Boston Sports fan! He will be missed by many.
