Elena Gioconda (Cirignano) Safina, 87, of Everett, formerly of Malden, passed away on Saturday April 17 at home surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Savignano, Italy on August 3, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Nicola Cirignano and Carmela Innaco. Elena grew up in Latina, Italy before immigrating to the United States in 1955.

Elena is survived by her daughter Mariacarmela Mallard – Sabella and her husband Charles Sabella of Everett and her son Nick Safina and his wife Karen of Reading.

A loving grandmother and constant source of love and support, she leaves behind her grandchildren Nicholas and Victoria Safina of Reading, Kaila and Devin Mallard of Everett and step grandchildren Chucky, Tiffany and Domenic Sabella, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Elena was the sister of Anna Cirignano, Giovanna Rendicini and the late Antonio Cirignano of Latina and Ernesto Cirignano of Nevada and the former wife of the late Joseph Safina of Malden.

She was renowned for her amazing cooking and had several careers as seamstress, home health aide and daycare provider for the past 21 years.

She will truly be missed.

Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 770 Salem St, Malden MA on Friday April 23 at 11:30am.
A gathering to celebrate Elena's life will be held this summer for family and friends.
